Spin the wheel
MDV ToolsOne name or choice per line; spin, and the wheel stops on a fair pick.
How this works
The winner is drawn before the wheel moves. Pressing Spin takes one number from
crypto.getRandomValues — discarding any draw that would favour the first slices — and
that number is the winner. The spin that follows is animated to come to rest on that slice, at a
random point inside it rather than dead centre, so it looks like a wheel and not a pointer being
placed. Nothing about the animation, its speed or how long you watch it changes the result; it is
there because people like to watch, and it makes the draw visible to a room. While it turns, the
Spin button becomes Skip — press it, the wheel or Escape to jump straight to where
it was always going to stop.
Every slice is the same size, so every line has the same chance: with six names, one in six. A name written on two lines gets two slices and twice the chance, which the page points out. For draws where some entries should carry more weight than others, the random picker takes tickets. Take off the wheel removes the last winner's line from the list, for raffles with several prizes or going round a room; Shuffle order only rearranges the slices, which changes how the wheel looks and nothing about the odds.
Real prize wheels are rarely this fair — a heavier spoke, a sticky bearing or a practised hand all lean them. If your device is set to reduce motion, the wheel turns straight to the result without the spin. The list lives in this tab only; nothing is sent or stored, and the Dark button keeps its own setting in this browser's local storage. From 2 to 500 lines.
